In light of my actually missing this deadline, first time ever, I am giving myself a shake and calling me out! I have been pondering on the notion of Integrity as I heard a discussion about the value of it recently.
Two definitions I have encountered :
1. the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness as in
"he is known to be a man of integrity"
2. the state of being whole and undivided, workability as in
"the bicycle was in a state of integrity with all its parts present"
It is the second one that interests me as I am whole and complete and gave my word to write this article on time! I this case giving my word but not completing it lacks integrity and has impact on the readers and WDC newsletter process. Definitely not workable.
I am usually careful to fulfill what I say I will and yet, life happens unexpectedly....tech glitches too!
I came across the tool of "Honouring my word" as a way to stay in integrity when I cannot accomplish my promise, in spite of best laid plans. The idea is to communicate, of course, and offer to make it up, if needed. Without guilt or judgement, as it was not intended. I have used this to effect in those times when I know I will not be able to complete the plan. Most people can appreciate that part of integrity, even if they may be a bit upset by the change. At least another plan can be made and the party is not left hanging.
Now, getting the due date mixed up is another matter! Rare for me, so I will blame Mercury retrograde! LOL Still, that is also a matter of workability and integrity, where I did not check schedule with focus and was off line so much! Mea culpa! Many apologies. I promise not to do it again. My word!
A little wake up call to choose and give my word with thought as well as to put system in place to remind me what I said I would do! And remembering that I am human and humans will do what we do! Thanks for listening.
What does giving and keeping your Word mean to you?
Sorry I missed you all!
