Welcome to September! I, for one, am glad September is a time when change beings. The days get cooler. The gardens are ready to be harvested, and leaves start to change. Nowhere is change so dramatic than in New England. In California, days are a tad cooler, for which I am grateful.
Autumn starts on 22 September this year. September also welcomes Hispanic heritage month. One of my favorite movies which predominately feature the Hispanic culture is “A Walk in the Clouds” with Keanu Reaves. Do you have a favorite movie you’d like to share?
As I searched for ideas for this newsletter, I discovered the term “May-September” romance. I knew of “May-December,” but I wasn’t familiar with “May-September.”
When I think of September, I think of bright leaves, warm cooking spices like nutmeg and allspice; I think of pumpkins, apples, and pies, festivals and cooking. For me, this is the romance of autumn.
What comes to your mind when September is here?

Age is just a number! While searching through the Internet, I learned a “May-September” romance is where there is a significant age difference between the partners. Typically, it’s the man who is significantly older, but sometimes you see an older woman. (Hear that cougar roar!) An example: A 40 year old is dating a 20 year old. The May refers to the spring of one’s life, and the younger person, and September refers to the older person in the autumn of their life.
While such relationships may be genuine, there maybe ulterior motives involved. The older person maybe rich, or the older person may want a child after finally sewing their wild oats. The one thing I learned, is that there usually is a driving force other than love driving the relationship.
Some famous May-September romances include Anna Nicole Smith and J. Howard Marshall III, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas, Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor.
Would you consider George and Amal Clooney a “May-September” romance? Is there a May-September romance you'd like to share with us?

Dear Steph,
Thank you so much for the newsletter. It is very informative and I will be using it in my novels that I write. I believe flowers are a symbol of love with different meanings. This is very helpful, thanks for the research.
Thank you very much for highlighting my poem, I appreciate it very much.
You’re welcome.
