A Special Day

I have it on good authority that today is the day that StoryMaster and StoryMistress celebrate their 14th Wedding Anniversary.

To help us all understand this couple who have brought us this site, I have highlighted a few of their items in the editor's picks below. If you're only going to read one, read this one:

Real-life romantic anniversaries are inspirational to all of us. It's always nice to witness two people make a go out of a relationship through good times and bad times. Because there is no such thing as a perfect life, relationships are under fire every single day. It takes courage, loyalty, grit, and LOVE to stick it out on those days when it feels easier to throw in the towel and start over with someone else.

Finding romance, experiencing love that spans years and decades is not necessarily a given in our modern world. That's why it's so important to have fiction romance that fulfills our yearning for that perfect romance.

When writing romantic fiction that follows a couple over a long time, you might find resources on the internet that explain the different anniversaries and what 'should' happen on those days. You know: paper, leather, gold etc.
But those have been written. And they are so commercialized! Don't people have better things to do with their money than buy shiny objects as a sign of their dedication to each other? If you're going to spend that kind of money, go on a vacation, throw a huge party, or find a charity to support.

This is where your creativity as a writer comes in. If you're going to have an anniversary in your story, give your characters something unusual to do. Something different. Something that drives the story and shows us characters that we want to follow.

Ask & Answer

For my last Romance/Love newsletter "You Want them TogetherOpen in new Window., I got the following replies:

Bikerider Author Icon wrote: Great newsleter Octobersun. I find the a story that ends with unrequited love, while not ending happily, do stay with me longer. There is the old template in most romance stories: boy finds girl; boy loses girl; boy gets girl back. For me, a good romance story strays as far from that template as possible. Kimbug Author Icon wrote: There have to be reasons as to why people with sizzling chemistry don't come together, right? Maybe one or both are married to other people; maybe they are of different races or social classes, just to name a few. Those complications could (and have) make (made) interesting stories.

Christopher Roy Denton Author Icon wrote: Well, I was rather surprised to find my villanelle on obsession in your romance newsletter, but I ain't complaining! *Laugh* Thank you! "Mad Boy's Love SongOpen in new Window.

trippyvibes2083 Author Icon wrote: I took almost a decade break from writing and I recently tried to push through it. As a result, I finally created something after all this time! This was the first website I used in a long time and I can't wait to become a part of this community. I relit the flame on my writing passion! I'd like this to be featured because I am extremely proud of it and would love to show it off to the community! Thank you for your consideration! -Trippy "Lessons of Love [Part 1]Open in new Window.

Someone Author Icon wrote: Am very new to this and i feel like i still have a lot to learn about poetry. But i will take my chances "Invalid ItemOpen in new Window.

Someone Author Icon also wrote: If you had asked me 5 months ago, i never knew i could write so much. I have written like 30 poems to this day and twice more poems half way through.
Personally, i really like the love/romance poems i have written. They are filled with raw emotions.
I have been in writing.com for nearly 2 months now, i still haven't seen any love poems written like the way i have.
I don't know why am doing this, but any feedbacks from you should give me some ease. At least i tried for once. "Invalid ItemOpen in new Window.
