Love of the Outdoors

The great outdoors are the perfect location for love and romance. How else do you explain that even our own Romance Merit Badge, as designed by none other than the amazing The StoryMistress Author Icon features a tree in it?

Yes...The cat must be happy again...

You can put your love of the outdoors into your writing in many ways. For one, you can full on write odes to the wonders of nature. The beauty of trees. The majesty of mountains. The depth of the oceans. The power of waterfalls. The loyalty of a beloved pet. Nature gives us so many things to do, look at, and interact with - how could we not love it?

Aside from waxing poetic about nature itself, you can use nature as a spectacular backdrop for your romance. At this time, I have to make a confession. I did not read Twilight, but I watched the first two movies. One of my main takeaways from watching those movies was how the characters lived in those big forests. I enjoyed watching those movies for their amazing nature shots. So, I know, it's not written fiction. I cheated. However, when they turned those books into movies, they understood the value of adding sweeping shots of the treetops to the movie as a means to show how large and thick the forest is.

As you write your romance or love story, ask yourself if there is a way to include some nature into your story. It can only enhance it.
