Letter from the editor

Scorpio gets a bad rap in astrology due to the darker aspects of holding a grudge indefinitely and being stereotyped as vindictive. Yet, in various sites, which list the most notorious serial killers by horoscope sign, Gemini is the number one sign among those who committed the most horrific crimes, while Virgo is a close second.

Since I am a Virgo, I couldn't help but focus on those who have the same sign, such as Ed Gein. Interestingly, if you take a close look at what we know of his personal life and the way he committed his crimes or rather his means of disposal, you will see a lot of basic Virgo traits there. For one, he didn't waste anything and had an artistic means for which he used the remains.

My boyfriend is always teasing me because I will not throw anything away. If it can be reused, then I'll find a way to do so. If not for a functional purpose, then I will use it for crafts. For example, those water bottles and glass jars that often fill up trash bins become fairy houses and fairy lamps. Although, Gein repurposed in a much more grotesque way, such as his skin lamps. Even though it is horrific, one can't help but see he might have thought of himself as an artist of sorts and he didn't waste anything.

Another stereotypical Virgo quality Gein held was that he was an introvert. He mostly kept to himself and was considered a quiet and soft-spoken man. This characteristic is also a Virgo stereotype that I identify with. But, don't worry, I don't have any bodies hiding anywhere.

Studying the negative attributes of the horoscopes, it would be easy to create a villain from any astrology sign. Of course, depending on their personality traits, they would commit crimes for different reasoning and dispose of the evidence in their own unique way, fitting to their sign. For example, me being an artsy Virgo, I would dispose of the evidence by using the ashes of my victims in clay and make works of art.

Besides analyzing our own sign, we can use what we know about other signs in our writing. Each sign would have their own motivations, way of committing a crime and disposing of the evidence.

Compare your dark traits to the ones listed on this site: https://www.rebelcircus.com/blog/many-serial-killers-zodiac-sign/

Which notorious serial killers do you share an astrological sign with? Can you see some similarities in their character that match astrological traits in your personality? How about those you know in other astrological signs? In what ways can you utilize these traits in your horror writing?
