Contest & Activity Newsletter by Dawn

It's a new year and with it being 2020, that just has the makings of possible epic starts. Here is a little look at some options for starting something new for the year.

Letter from the editor

We made it another year and like many times, right now is a good time to begin something new. There are often uses of phrases like "new year, new you" and the like to help boost an inward focus or some type of improvement to mark the end of a particular time frame along with the start of the new one. Time is viewed in different segments with years and decades being viewed as markers that most acknowledge, so for this newsletter we're going to consider something similar though don't worry, it won't require an entirely new you. This is the first newsletter for Contests and Activities for 2020, which can be the start of something very new.

What I want to suggest is that for 2020 you try something new. This can be something you create here on WDC or you can join an activity that you've never done before already made by someone else. There aren't many limits or requirements to this suggestion.

Here are some options to consider:

1. Reading
There are a couple of book groups on the site that either focuses on making goals each month/year for reading. Goodreads does a year goal where anyone with an account on their site can pick the number of books they want to read within the year. Here on WDC there is also a group for putting up monthly goals on what books you plan to read that particular month. Or it can be a group where you help other authors on the site who are needing stories read, published works reviewed on amazon, or just reading rough drafts to give a general opinion as a reader. There are a few options available and if one doesn't meet your goal then you can create the activity and get others to join.

2. Writing
Of course, this is a writing web site so you can do a writing activity. I Write 2020 is a great challenge, for example, that will get you to write and review stories here on WDC. It is an extensive challenge that goes over the whole year where it might be a little easier to write poetry and short fiction is going to be the limit as far as word count but it's great in getting stuff out throughout the whole year. There are others activities that focus on writing goals and definitely a number of contests here that could use entries. If you haven't done that much in the past, consider that as your new activity for 2020.

3. Non-Writing
Yep, you can even do non-writing activities. There are a number of different groups here on the web site devoted to other aspects in our lives, whether it's a group of similar interests, struggling through hardships or just a fun random group set up to host an activity to bring people together for a single cause, there are many different things you can do here on WDC. You can even work on that new you goal if you'd like as some groups do goals and focus on things like getting healthier, setting up a regular schedule or even getting into the gym on a regular basis.

Whether you are the type to make New Year Resolutions or not, it can be a good challenge when it's a new year to try and make a type of goal or something that you want to make happen in the new year. Since there are many options, you don't have to be limited to "typical resolutions" though there is nothing wrong with them if they are something you need and want to accomplish. Either way, it's up to you. It's a new year and only you can decide what you want to do with the next 364 days. What will you do?
