This is a short story i started writing in math today, so i dont know where its going yet
Daye Starr ran pink fingernails through silky, straight balck hair. Then her hands pulled her hair up expertly into a ponytail. She closed her black eyes and took in a deep breath. A whistle blew and Daye opened her eyes.
"Serve it Starr!" Lizzie Calendar called from up at the net.
Daye bounced the ball in her hands a few times, then threw it up above and infront of her. She brought up her left hand, then brought up her right hand and smacked the down-coming ball.
The impact noise filled the gym as the ball soared over the net in a straight line.
It went right for the far left corner of the opposite court, and the opposing libero shanked it out.
Though it took a second for Daye to realize what had happened, everyone else in the crowded gym knew right away. Screams echoed off the walls and came crashing down on Daye as her team mates ran over and nearly mauled her.
"WE WON STATE NATIONALS!" Syndey Turner screamed right in Daye's ear as she practically lifted her up off the ground.
Daye screamed in excitement as she realized the meaning of this. They had WON. She had scored the last point out of 5 gruesome games. They had WON.
"Oh my gosh you guys!!!" The varities coach ran up, just as excited as them, tears streaming down her face, "WE WON!!"
Daye looked at the faces of her team mates, and realized all of them were crying. Before she knew it, she was crying too. They had come so far, through so much pain and hard work. Now it was over, and she couldn't believe it.
New arms wrapped around her as her parents, older brother, and friends came to congradulate her.
Another whistle blew, and the team realized they had to go shake hands with the other team.
On normal circumstances, Daye would feel sorry for the other team, also crying, but not for the same reason. But today was different. She had won them the last point for State Nationals!
"Now we are proud to present the Mountain Hills High School Varsity Volleyball Team with this trophy!" the ref yelled into the microphone.
