A summer storm I experienced at the Grand Canyon...
At home, safe and sound,
The summer storm beckons.
Outside, the rain begins to pound,
Large buildings groan in protest.

Through the night the storm rages,
An old oak sways dangerously.
Hail pelts green leaves like so many rocks,
And the wind howls angrily.

The rumble of thunder,
Can be heard off in the distance.
It tears the gray clouds asunder,
The sheer force is astounding.

The wind continues to howl,
And brings a refreshing cool.
The torrential rains collect,
In a clear sweet pool.

The wind dies down,
To a gentle breeze.
The earth is a muddy brown,
The grass a dewy green.

The air smells clean,
Freshened by the summer storm.
The earth is renewed,
Pounded back to its true form.

All manner of creatures,
Great and small, peek out.
Their hiding places empty,
They await the next summer storm.
