Why Give Up?


You often hear the saying
that once bitten is twice shy.
I’ve always scorned that metaphor,
kept my hopes and spirits high.

I believe that love will find a way
though the chances might seem slight,
and everyone can find someone,
though it might not be tonight.

My heart's been broken many times,
been ripped right from my chest.
Eventually the pain would fade,
like the sun sets in the West.

Of course, the sun would rise again
and the dawn would bring the light.
Then someone, somewhere, somehow,
stirs my heart with sweet delight.

It never is expected,
it’s always a surprise,
and now I’ve come to realize,
in love, MY heart’s the prize.
