War is Sad War’s song has been sung since the beginning of time It has been praised in all the tongues That men use in their many lands It has been set in stone And has been written down But it has never once been understood War’s tale has been told since the beginning of time It has been told to young children Who dreamt dreams of being warriors Told with all its heroes And with all its villains It has been gloriously immortalized But the truth of War has never been sung The songs of men who for their land Were cut down by merciless steel They breathed their final breaths And bled away their life While the arrows and the shells scorched the sky And the truth of War has never been told The tales of men who left their home To fight for what they knew was right They left all that they owned And left all they that loved So that today we could love and own freedom There are countless songs that have been written And countless tales that have been told Speaking of War like a mere game But they will never know And they will never see The ghastly, sad sacrifice that War is |
