I sit back and think how I’ve let time pass me by
And start to succumb to the glassy eyes
As I think of the producer of this classy guy.
She made me who I am, so go ahead and ask me why
For her, I wouldn’t think twice before I blast or die.
It all started with a selfless act; a mother’s choice.
My first memory: Laying against her chest, hearing my mother’s voice,
Telling the room, “My baby’s asleep. Watch the noise.”
Every Christmas I was the envy of all the boys.
Beside our tree: Mount Everest Mountain of toys.
She used to love to walk in and say, “Come shop with me honey.”
Let’s, you and I, go spend daddy’s check like it’s monopoly money.
Sun going down; us coming home; Dad stating, ”I’ve been paging you!”
Best friend and I laughing, “Big sale, just think of the money we’re saving you.”
Time passed and it wasn’t as cool to be “Mamma’s Man.”
Teenage mistakes made in the grasp of Drama’s hand.
Too many nasty words slipped that can’t be taken back. I wish they could.
We still have time to make our repairs, my BFF; Knock on wood.
Some things time nor mistakes can ever change.
We might be in different cars but always in the same lane.
One day, that road will lead Me, Xiomara, and your grandchildren home.
I told my wife-to-be I can see the nursery now; mauve and chrome.
Time is our only enemy and because of that, I will try harder.
Instead of letting such small tiffs leave me thinking, “Why bother?”
So, here’s your 2010 Happy Mother’s Day.
My gift; A new motto; I’ll call you RIGHT BACK; not another day.
