After two years, some things can no longer be fixed |
| Two years We spent in the heat, we spent in the home, we spent as one Two years We strived for perfection Always working, always changing, always fixing From the start we were fixing For two years we’ve had a hole in our boat For two years that hole has been abused We tried nailing cardboard over the hole We tried gluing the pieces together We tried steel, metal, wood, rope, cloth, superglue and caulk For two years we were always going back to that hole Always patching it up But nothing ever sustained No permanent fix For two years the hole has gotten bigger Our boat slowly filling up Not with love But with weight Burden of destruction And defeat For two years we’ve struggled to stay afloat But now all we’ve got left to keep going Are pieces of the deck an oar-less lifeboat and a rusty anchor that we’ve never thrown For two years We’ve been ignoring the solution to that hole in our boat It’s time for a new ship to steer A new boat without any damaged holes Without anything to fix from the beginning A new boat That I will wave to you from. |
