An experiment involving cats goes terribly wrong and humanity pays the price.
They were coming. He could hear them through the walls and ventilation. His creations were coming to kill him. They were vicious and unstoppable. He hadn’t bred them to be that way. This was all an accident. Freaks of science that should never have been. Cloning cats was his research and his life. There had been a reason for it an important purpose but he’d forgotten. As the adrenaline surged through his body memories became like leaves in the wind.

Something happened with the clones. A shift in DNA. A mutation that caused them to grow much larger, much faster, and much smarter. They chased him now having feasted on the others. Torn them limb from limb they had. He could still hear the screams and see the bodies. The cats let him run and let him scream. They enjoyed watching him
struggle but the fun was over now, and they were hungry.

The ceiling in front of him gave way, and a cat as large as a bear rolled onto the floor. All of its fur had fallen out leaving nothing but muscle, sinew, claws, and fangs as sharp as tempered steel. Its gray lifeless eyes hungered for blood. He tried to run but it was too late. His cry’s echoed throughout the empty halls as it tore into his flesh. Other cats emerged like shadows from the darkness. They were moving now out through the ventilation. With his dying breath he watched as the cats escaped into the world. Science had given civilization yet another gift.
