The Chicken Nightmare

It all happened one night when I was walking home from my aunts house. She didn’t live that far from me actually on the same drive as me and just up a hill. It had grown really dark as dark as a skunks eye. When all a sudden I heard from a distance a strange noise. The ruckus was growing closer and I gathered my jacket just a little tighter around my neck. My eyes shuttled back and forth at any unknown or foreign sight. I felt my skin begin to crawl as I reached my door. I fumbled for my keys, finding them all the way at the bottom of my bag. I always carry that big old thing everywhere with everything in it. Why tonight of all nights?

Once I found sanctuary inside I let out a sigh of relief. I began to heat water for a cup of tea and then I heard it.
The noise came from the other room. I half heartedly walked to find the noise. It appeared to be coming from my room. This was not good to hear in a big old house all alone at night. Gathering all my nerve I threw the door open to my room.
Nothing was there, nothing out of place. I looked down on the floor and found an old story I had been writing and started to read it. I thought as I read I should finish it this is one good plot line. I was wrapped in the story as I heard a faint hiss. It seemed to reverberate from everywhere yet nowhere at all.
I began to shake this is a nightmare.

I twitched my head back and forth in search of the direction the hiss came. Nothing. I was alone no one was here nor were they supposed to be. What was this strange sound and where was it coming from?
I stood from my bed and started to slowly walk out of my door to find the eerie unknown interruption. Slowly reaching for the handle……….Whistle……. The teapot had heated to a boil and had started to whistle. I smiled and shook my head as I walked out to the kitchen. Pouring my tea and honey in the cup I laughed out loud at myself for being so skittish. I then walked back to my room to gather the story up once more and continue reading. But to my surprise the room was not filled with my normal things rather it was feathers. All kinds of white feathers floated around the room as if flurrying a downy snow.
What was that out the window? Now it walks heavily on the roof. Clicking sounds of an unknown clawed foot. It sounded again hiss..s..s out louder than before. This was getting to me. I could not handle it.

I quickly reached underneath my mattress and jerked out my bottle of courage and poured three heavy shots into my hot tea. Shaken and uneasy I sat there on the edge of the mattress and held my head in my hands until the hissing stopped.
I finished off the cup of tea and then went to straight courage. The thumping of my heart the only sound I heard, aside from my erratic breathing. Feeling a little better and not quiet sure of the nights prior events I lay down on the bed and drifted off to sleep.

Spiraling down into a dark blacker than pitch I find myself in a tinted world shades not natural to my eyes. Whispers surround me in a gruff tone. Whirling and twirling this way and that I shuffle from one nightmare into another where disembodied voices call out my name to shadows that chase me in the night.

As the sun rose and the beams bled into my window onto my face I fought the dreams to wake up. I grabbed my head and felt queasy I remembered the visions of last nights dreams. I felt even more sick now that I had remembered everything I had hoped was just dreams.

I gathered some clothes and went to take a hot shower. I turned on the faucet to heat my water and watched as the steam filled the room. I had almost convinced myself none of it had happened. I did have an awesome imagination after all. I quickly undressed and jumped in the shower letting the water soak my head and back. Eyes closed and relaxing away the whole night before I open my eyes and reach for my razor. I made a quick job of my underarms and went for my legs. That’s when I saw it, a feather stuck on my thigh. I rubbed and picked at it to no avail.

I jumped from the shower and grabbed for my robe. I found a pair of tweezers I was determined that this was not really happening. I pulled at the feather and when it finally came loose a single drop of blood shown on my thigh. All at once I heard outside the door the nightmarish growling voice from my dream last night. The chicken had followed me out of the dream world………NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
