Prose about masks and insecurity
Deus Personis

I stand beside myself, surrounded by mine friends;

Their masks, ever changing, their faces, banished from sight.

They speak in tongues familiar to me, but their words are but white noise to my ears.

I stand beside myself, surrounded by mine monsters;

They shuffle about, as husks, mindless and without direction.

I shudder to think what monstrosities hide beneath the masks;

Beasts of legend, and creatures of nightmares.

I stand beside myself, a monster in my own right;

I am no different than them, my mask long welded onto a grotesque form.

I, too drone along; taking solace in my ability to just make it to the next sunrise.

I, too will dread the removal of my mask; that the world may see what lies beneath.

I stand beside myself, surrounded by mine friends, mine monsters, a monster myself.

I stand in solitude amidst a sea of masks.
