A story about the first human to be alive. His life started with the birth of mankind.
The First Human

Born in western Africa at the birth of man, he was the first human but he didn't know that at the time.  When he was a child he had a different way of thinking to the generation before him.  He was aware of himself and others and had the ability of empathy.

As the years moved forward he watched humans migrate from the evolution valley to all corners of the world.  Civilizations grew, conquered and fell.  Knowledge increased as did the humans ambitions.  With those ambitions came war and death but the first human had the gift of immortality and watched generations of family and friends die.

After seeing his loved ones repeatedly suffer and die the immortal man decided not to love anymore which led him to fight.  He joined several armies and fought in many battles.  Witnessing the fall of Rome, he battled the Mongols at Transoxiana and fought the French and Agincourt.

He found killing distasteful but necessary when he believed in the cause.  Particularly challenging was the Second American Civil which he often thought these people are insane.  Mankind watched the atrocities committed and collectively decided no more war.

They looked to the future and established colonies on the Moon, Mars and Titan which he briefly lived before moving back to western Africa near his birthplace.  That's when the virus hit. A virus they had called the flu mutated and killed everyone one on Earth, The Moon, Mars and Titan.

Only the immortal escaped the pandemic and after the penultimate human died, he began to age like a normal person until one day he took a nap under the sun and never woke up. He was the first human to be alive and last human to die.
