A brief poem about growing up with child abuse.
The Memory

Do you have a memory?

One from deep inside.

Like being with the other kids,

while playing on the slide.

Do you have a memory?

One that brings you happiness.

Or have they all just crumbled,

like little shards of glass?

Do you have a memory?

We all do I'm told.

We take them all along with us,

and keep as we grow old.

Do you have a memory?

From whence you draw your strengths,

the elders didn't seem to know

how much we're kept at lengths.

So if you cherish memories,

keep them safe and dear.

For time doesn't heal all wounds,

once they turn to tears.
