Joys of playing in the snow |
They come outside dressed in big overstuffed coats with feather-filled lining. Their hoods are pulled tight over their heads. Colorful mittens, hats, and scarfs cover their exposed parts. They are so bundled up, you cannot see their faces, but you do see the vapors of their breaths as they exhale. These are the snow angels: Mystic creatures whose sole purpose is running amock in newly fallen snow. Whether it be with a sled, snow shoe, or boot, make no mistake about it, they are here to trample virgin snow. They waste no time and get straight to work; building snow walls, snowmen, and snow forts. They build and collect massive snowball ammunition as they prepare for war on the snow angels across the street, or even the innocent passers-by - "War is hell!" They perfect the perfect snow person with stolen items from their lairs: Buttons for eyes, carrots for a nose, confiscated hats and scarfs for clothing. They sled down hills, barely avoiding trees on the way down. They lay upon the ground swiping legs and arms making perfect angel impressions. Some run around with tongues protruding from their covered faces for the chance of catching a snowflake and savoring the icy flavor. It is now total mayhem, where just moments earlier it was a peaceful white landscape. Snowballs flying, saucers and sleds speeding. Snow Angels are out! |
