Message In a Bottle

Teal waves caressed white sand,
as I wandered in the warmth of the sun.
Gentle, rhythmic churning filled my ears,
leaving my mind calm and peaceful.

Time seemed to stand completely still,
watching me as I inhaled the salty breeze.
Serenity surrounded me as a soft blanket,
erasing the buried stress of everyday life.

A glimmer of something shiny in the sand
drawing my wandering eye to a sealed bottle.
Inside was a note, rolled up like a scroll,
tied with a raggedy strand of tan string.

I reached down and picked up this treasure,
and popped the cork before flipping it over.
Shaking the bottle into the palm of my hand,
I watched as the scroll slid down into my palm.

Gingerly untying the note, I unfurled it,
and began to read the words etched on the page.
Feeling absolute peace, I replaced the scroll in the bottle,
corked it, and threw it back into the sea.

“If you are reading this note,
you will have the favor among men,
for you have the favor of God above,
so return me to sea, and pass the blessing on.”
