Her hands are still locked on the steering wheel; Eyes glued to the words-Correctional Facility. Her lungs paused. She was mentally preparing herself to withhold emotions; To hold them captives until she could free them in private. The signals to smile and be brave fall to thoughts of running. The falling snow embracing the soft breeze, Brought no Christmas spirit. Light shows, and tinsels Mistletoe and family were far away thoughts. She just wanted the tears to dry And her body to move. Instead she sat frozen, locked on the thought, He won't be home for Christmas. She felt like she was trapped inside a snowglobe. A stagnant statue with Frosty the snowman, an elf, and a reindeer. Waiting patiently to be shaken up. Waiting patiently for the spirit within her To make itself know again. But where is he? While Christmas cookies bake with kids decor His belly fills with mystery meat stew. Her sad eyes torment his soul But he knows how to rise the spirit within her. Yes, he has the key To unlock the joy. Her bright smile blinds When he says "I'll be home for Christmas" |
