Sit, Stay, Speak
Bonner's Theorem

WC 287

"Mr. Pickard, you aren't going to believe this, but my dog ate my homework again."

"You're right. I don't believe it. You've used that excuse too many times before, Roger. You know you're about to fail this class. This homework assignment is due today." He sat back in his chair and surveyed the student standing before him.

"But he did! Bonner was chewing the last bit of it as I walked in the house after choir practice! I couldn't stop him! He just looked up at me and kept on chewing!"

Mr. Pickard sighed, took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes. "How do I know this isn't another one of your tall tales?"

"Tell you what, I'll bring in my assignment in ten minutes. Can I do that?" Roger looked at his teacher hoping for a good sign.

Mr. Pickard checked his watch. He tried hard not to smile. Roger was a bit of a wild card but worth a second chance. A slight smile flickered across his face. "Okay, ten minutes, but no more. Then I will be gone."

"You bet!" Roger ran out of the office and out of school. He jumped on his bike and raced home. "Come on Bonner, let's go!"

Bonner and Roger arrived at Mr. Pickard's office in less than ten minutes.

"Okay, here's my homework assignment." Bonner sat at attention in front of Mr. Pickard.

"Your dog is your homework? Sorry, but a dog is unacceptable. I did mention that you will fail my class if you don't turn in this assignment." Mr. Pickard shook his head in disbelief.

"But Bonner is the assignment. Just listen to this. Speak Bonner."

Bonner proceeded to recite the Pythagorean Theorem, word for word.
