Short Short story for the 10/18 flash fiction entries thingy. (297 words) |
At an hour drenched by the long lasting coat of evening, a princess stood atop the tallest tower in her castle, pink and white lined dress flowing through the gentle breeze as she looked out the window to the endless ocean of the east. The princess’s name was Shrilani, heir to the eventual throne of the Kingdom of Merizam. Yet all is not well in her heart, she feels an aching sense of burden that ever chips away at her thoughts, what if she is not fit to rule, to lead a kingdom where all will look up to her. So after the cloak of evening had fallen into a dense veil of nighttime, the princess would make her way back down the tower, every step causing a quiet echo through the dimly lit and red carpeted hallways and stairs. There was no resistance, she had to go find her heart once more, so she left the castle, fled her kingdom, and made her way out into the great forests of the west. Yet there, amidst her uncertainty, she would find a journey far harder than any she had ever faced before. She came across a hooded figure dressed in a ragged black, wearing a hood over his head that masked his face by shadow. The lone being would gently tilt its head up to look at the fleeing princess, seeing the ache in her heart and desire to live her own life. “So, you’ve left home seeking adventure eh, to go find your heart and be at peace with your mind once more?” The hooded figure would ask and lend out a hand. “I have” “Then let us together, rule our hearts and nothing more.” The being would pull off his hood as hand met hand. |
