Just a passing thought, "if I could make you a home".
If I could make a home in me and fold you in willingly,
Hold you in softly without a lock or a key -
How quickly I'd carve windows and pillars and domes,
Break open walls and overturn stones.
So quickly the gardens, the fruits would all grow;
How warm the hearth and kitchen lights would glow.

If I could mend the cracks and the rottenness of my heart,
Keep it all from crumbling, quaking and falling apart -
I'd ask you to stay - please, stay - not simply a guest,
In a home, not just a house, to lay your head to rest.
But the fissures do run deep, the fault lines underneath,
So I dare not touch you, ask you, seek you, watch you leave.
