Berkeley Time Travels

Time travel is possible

In Berkeley, California
There is a neighborhood
Stuck in time.

On Telegraph avenue
And Dwight street
It is always
1968.

Every store has '60s memorabilia
and decor.

Everybody on the street
looks like they did
Back in the day
The smell of Marijuana
wafting through the air.

Dudes in full 60s regalia
Sitting on the street
talking shit
Just like they have
every day

Since those magical days
of the mid-60s

When all things
seems possible.

And a new better world
would soon emerge.

Sadly, reality shattered
that counter-cultural dreams.
By 1969, the dream had died
replaced by the Nixonian
neo-fascist nightmares.

The assassinations of RFK
Malcolm X, MLK
Ending the dream forever .

But on Telegraph Avenue
The dream never died

Traveling to Telegraph Avenue
is like going through
a time machine.

On Telegraph avenue
It is always 1968
A few blocks away
It is 2023

SF Time Travel to Haigh Ashbury

Time travel is possible

In San Francisco
There is a neighborhood
Stuck in time

In the Haight Ashbury
It is always
the summer of love
It is always 1967.

Every store has '60s memorabilia
and decor

Everybody on the street
looks like they did
Back in the day
The smell of marijuana
wafting through the air

Five Dudes in full 60s regalia
Sitting on the street
talking shit
Just like they have
Every day,

Since the summer of love
That magical, mystical summer
of 1967.

When all things
seem possible

and a new better world
would soon emerge

Sadly reality shattered
those counter-cultural dreams.

By 1969 the dream had died

But in the Haight Ashbury

traveling to Haight Ashbury
is like going through a time machine

In the Haight Ashbury
Everyone still loves one another
Everyone is still a brother or sister
Everyone is still a hippie
Wearing flowers in their hair!

In the Haight Ashbury
It is always the summer of love
It is always 1967.

A few blocks away
It is 2023.


note: visited SF this summer. Haigh Ashbury seem frozen in time, felt I was back in 1967!
