On seeing a balloon outside my window in the night; a Kavita Ladies collaboration |
Moonlight Thoughts A poetry co-writing project with THANKFUL SONALI RIP BIKERIDER , under the name The Kavita Ladies, for "Poetry Pals" ("Kavita" is the Hindi word for "poem.") An owl calls outside my window As I gaze upon the moon; His mournful notes, a hollow sound Echo in my lonely room. Through his voice, all nature calls me Hush! I listen, quite spellbound My heart responds, from deep within I can feel it softly pound. I sit confused, unsure of life Waiting for some little sign To make me feel like I'm alive Or at least my thoughts align. What is this stirring, in my soul Has my mind begun to dance? Are all my senses waiting to receive freedom's only chance? Then something odd comes into view A drifting, aimless balloon Floating freely through silent air Silhouetted on the moon I wonder, is it part of me That flies, oh so freely there? Have all my fears lost their roots and Lightly taken to the air? I pondered long at such a sight Who set you free, I asked it, What sad child lost their plaything Their joy turned to tearful fret? Are my thoughts mere toys to use And throw when I outgrow them? Or are they universal pets Meant to shine - Heaven's crowning gem? Then I considered all it saw As it journeyed far and wide Planes, clouds, a stunning bird's-eye view And riches of travel besides It isn't right to cage a bird Nor hold thoughts and feelings down Oh please, let them fly, let them soar Little child, don't cry, don't frown! Better from the tight youthful grip To be released, untethered Than to stagnate safely, soundly From life's tests all unweathered And so we must all just let go Let closed fists be open palms That we may receive the blessing That uplifts, soothes, simply calms.
