Summary of this Book...
Two highschool sweethearts are the subject of this powerful story about teen suicide and the reality of true love at a young age. The book begins with the scene of the crime-Emily Gold commits suicide after discovering she is pregnant, aided by her boyfriend Chris Harte who is unaware of the motive. The book then proceeds to portray an epic battle of legal whit and the truth as Chris is charged with Emily's murder. The author also delves into the lives and reactions of the two pair of parents involved, which only strengthens the story. Picoult keeps you guessing till the very end.
This type of Book is good for...
Anyone and everyone, even if you shun suicide, condone it, or are opposed to sex before marriage (the book contains PG-13 scenes of intercourse between the teens and also their parents)
I especially liked...
How well Picoult described Emily's depression and her descent into suicidal tendencies. You felt both sorry for and angry at Emily Gold for the events leading up to and following her suicide.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read it again, of course. Oh yes, and write a novel just as powerful (a girl can dream, can't she?)
This Book made me feel...
Hopeful, angry, sad, and elated all at once. You really get a feel for how these people thought and felt, and almost felt as if you were them.
The author of this Book...
Did a wonderful job in portraying teenage thought and emotional processes without bias, showing sex as not always a simple carnal desire, and giving those with depression something to think on.
I recommend this Book because...
Everything within it rings true from all aspects of belief, whether or not you are a pro-life ultra-conservative, or a curious teenager.
