Pricilla Eads, heiress to a fortune in the cotton industry, pleads with Nero Wolfe to save her from an ex husband who is seeking half her fortune. However, Nero Wolfe is determined not to be involved in domestic affairs and refuses to help. After she goes home, she calls Archie in the middle of the night, afraid someone is in her apartment. He tells her to play a game called Prisoner's Base and not to hang up the phone.

But the phone goes dead and Archie calls the police and races to her apartment only to find her strangled. Murder is something Nero Wolfe can bother with though, so he dives in to investigate her death and settle the matter of her inheritance and ex-husband once and for all.

Anyone who loves a good murder mystery full of tension and plot and twists.

I love the characters of Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin. They have just enough eccentricities to be fun and create the perfect balance of tension and intrigue that a good mystery requires without being boring or cliche.
