Summary of this ... | ||
Amazon:With swashbuckling action that recalls Dumas's Three Musketeers, Sebastien de Castell has created a dynamic new fantasy series. In Traitor's Blade, a disgraced swordsman struggles to redeem himself by protecting a young girl caught in the web of a royal conspiracy. Me:Dumas meets Joe Abercrombie. Fast-paced adventure-fantasy with dark threads punctuated by laugh-out-loud humour. Wonderful characters, spot-on dialogue, and spectacular fight scenes.

4.5 stars I took a half-star off because I think somewhere at the beginning I found some portion of the writing to be choppy. I am now totally over that, but it only seems fair to mention it in passing. For a debut novel, this is outstanding, and it was one hell of an adventure. It's not a high-fantasy, there is no epic description of the settings and I'm perfectly fine with that. I don't need it. I make it up in my head. I love the MC. I love the main trio. I had a visceral hate for the villain. I loved the dialogue; I loved the banter; I loved the basic magic; I loved the hide-and-seek; I loved the interwoven past/present stories. I loved the 'woven threads' of the tailor. I LOVED the laugh-out-loud humour. I LOVED the adventure. I LOVED the fight scenes. I cannot wait to grab the next book.
