“Gathering Moss” is the second book by Robin Wall Kimmerer that I’ve had the pleasure of reading. The first was “Braiding Sweetgrass,” which was slightly more relatable to me than “Gathering Moss” simply for the fact that “Gathering Moss” is about such a niche and specialized topic, that some will find it tiresome. Still, Kimmerer’s writing is as elegant and enchanting as I remember. She is able to weave a personal and emotional story into a factual narrative about her life and work. I enjoyed the passion she shared for mosses and many of the chapters made me think in a way I had not thought before. The intricate and delicate lives of mosses have so many interesting parallels to aspects of Kimmerer’s life story that I would never have imagined. She is an expert when it comes to finding meaning and building a web of interconnectedness between us as humans to the natural world. Overall, an impressive, if niche, piece of work. | ||
