** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** OUR HAPPY THANKSGIVING MESSAGE THEODORE ROOSEVELT: A PROCLAMATION THANKSGIVING DAY, 1901 A Proclamation The season is nigh when, according to the time-hallowed custom of our people, the President appoints a day as the especial occasion for praise and thanksgiving to God. This Thanksgiving finds the people still bowed with sorrow for the death of a great and good President. We mourn President McKinley because we so loved and honored him; and the manner of his death should awaken in the breasts of our people a keen anxiety for the country, and at the same time a resolute purpose not to be driven by any calamity from the path of strong, orderly, popular liberty which as a nation we have thus far safely trod. Yet in spite of this great disaster, it is nevertheless true that no people on earth have such abundant cause for thanksgiving as we have. The past year in particular has been one of peace and plenty. We have prospered in things material and have been able to work for our own uplifting in things intellectual and spiritual. Let us remember that, as much has been given us, much will be expected from us; and that true homage comes from the heart as well as from the lips and shows itself in deeds. We can best prove our thankfulness to the Almighty by the way in which on this earth and at this time each of us does his duty to his fellow men. Now, Therefore, I, Theodore Roosevelt, President of the United States, do hereby designate as a day of general thanksgiving Thursday, the 28th of this present November, and do recommend that throughout the land the people cease from their wonted occupations, and at their several homes and places of worship reverently thank the Giver of all good for the countless blessings of our national life. In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed. Done at the city of Washington this second day of November, A. D. 1901, and of the Independence of the United States the one hundred and twenty-sixth. THEODORE ROOSEVELT Happy Thanksgiving to all.. Warmest best, GabriellaR45 Happy to share this one last time. . { |

Ms Glück was born in 1943 in New York. She lives in Massachusetts and is professor of English at Yale University. "Baskets” includes these lines: I take my basket to the brazen market, to the gathering place, I ask you, how much beauty can a person bear? It is heavier than ugliness, even the burden of emptiness is nothing beside it. Crates of eggs, papaya, sacks of yellow lemons — I am not a strong woman. It isn’t easy to want so much, to walk with such a heavy basket, either bent reed, or willow. ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** |

Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the liberal icon who served on the Supreme Court since 1993 and who crusaded for women’s rights before that, died on Friday at the age of 87. She was once passed over for a clerkship on the Supreme Court because of her gender, was the second woman to sit on the nation’s highest court after Sandra Day O’Connor, and the first Jewish woman to do so. President Bill Clinton nominated her to the Supreme Court in 1993 after she had served on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit since 1980. From 2006 until 2009, she was the only woman on the Supreme Court. (Huffpoint) |
NEWSFEED INTEREST: WRITING/JOURNALISM Sharing this News and Your Views. ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday he is considering a pardon for Edward Snowden, the former U.S. National Security Agency contractor - now living in Russia - whose spectacular leaks shook the U.S. intelligence community in 2013. The Republican president's comments followed an interview Trump gave to the New York Post this week in which he said of Snowden that "there are a lot of people that think that he is not being treated fairly" by U.S. law enforcement. "I'm going to start looking at it," Trump told reporters about a possible pardon, speaking at a news conference at his Bedminster, New Jersey golf club. U.S. authorities for years have wanted Snowden returned to the United States to face a criminal trial on espionage charges brought in 2013. Snowden fled the United States and was given asylum in Russia after he leaked a trove of secret files in 2013 to news organizations that revealed vast domestic and international surveillance operations carried out by the NSA. Snowden's Russian lawyer, Anatoly Kucherena, told RIA news agency the United States should not simply pardon him, but should drop all possible prosecutions against Snowden as he had not commited any crimes. "He was acting not only in the interest of the American citizens, but in the interest of all the humankind," Kucherena said. Trump's softening stance toward Snowden represents a sharp reversal. Shortly after the leaks, Trump expressed hostility toward Snowden, calling him "a spy who should be executed." --->Use This Opportunity To Summarize Your Position |
| Knowing the issues we are seeing exposed within our own FBI, CIA, Justice Department, I have very little faith in their conclusion that he is the lone "bad actor" in all this. I for one would want to hear what Snowden knows under oath. I also want to know who, or what higher up organization in our country could have been involved in helping this guy escape. I don't really believe he managed this on his own or only with the aid of some foreign entity. What I am saying is, this is a very complex issues that begs answers. Should he be outright pardoned? Not necessarily, there has to be more investigation. The way he did release the information about surveillance upon citizens was not done under the guideline protections offered a whistle blower, but rather, as a rogue actor. This is why we need to know if he undertook this on his own, or, was he handled by a powerful figure higher up the chain regarding the leak, to harm a particular agency? Was this possibly a power grab by one alphabet organization to discredit the other? My conclusion is, I can't say at this stage of the debate if he should be outright pardoned or serve some jail time for his part, but not a full prison sentence if he cooperates in a thorough investigation whereby we get all the questions answered. I tend to lean to the latter. Just one person's opinion, here. |
| I guess each person makes their own choices in this world, and Snowden made his. He felt he did this for the greater good. He decided to leak details of the secret programmes being run by the US National Security Agency (NSA) and the UK’s secret communication headquarters, GCHQ. This extreme spying going on by these agencies made him uneasy, and he decided to come forth with information on what was happening. He gave up everything to do this! I, myself, don't like being spied on, and I think by doing what he did, he stopped them in their tracks - 'because they are now under closer scrunity.' Just my opinion on what I've read about Edward Snowden. |
| 𝓦𝓮𝓫W𝓲𝓽𝓬𝓱 I just know, as a journalist, breaking a story is similar to leaking information. Either you are good at your job at attaining info or someone spoon fed the reporter the details because they want that news (with a particular slant) to get out. I've heard of it referenced on Community as, 'getting out ahead of the story, Letterman style.' Was Snowden deliberately put in that position? Was it his conscience that made him reveal info? Trump can ask questions and might not get all the details. Making a pact to get testimony also makes sense before a pardon. We cannot fully know what goes on in Washington. I'm certain this is not that transparent. I do know, the president leaked what he's thinking for a reason: To gauge public input or grease the narrative a bit, get the wheels moving for whatever political motivations? |

Roosevelt signed the Servicemen’s Readjustment Act --more popularly known as the “GI Bill of Rights.” In 1981, Mark David Chapman pleaded guilty to killing rock star John Lennon. | Responding to Your Question: You asked how many African-Americans took part in the Civil War. At the end of the war, the rough number given to the participation of black soldiers is 179.000. This number includes members of the Union Army and the Navy. Many black soldiers created Infantry and National Guard units of their own. More than 1,000 black soldiers responded to the call for soldiers in the 54th Massachusetts Infantry. One quarter of this number came from slave states. To lead the 54th Massachusetts, Governor Andrew chose a young white officer named Robert Gould Shaw. |
Thanks, dear glorious cheer leaders,
for your kind responses to Theodore Roosevelt's
