I have added Chapter 25 of my book Alien Girl to my portfolio. I would appreciate any comments or help anyone is willing to give me. |
I've just posted chapter 2 of my book that is named Laresn - Alien Girl.
You are welcome to read and review it. I would appreciate any pointers that you can give me to improve it. You are welcome to check out my portfolio and critique anything in it. Thank you very much for any assistance you can give me. |
Caged - (To The One Under The Control of Another) Standing in your cage, You're safe and secure. Others look at you and notice How you're looking very mature. They don't see your strange surroundings. They're used to seeing you there. But you know he's holding you in, And you don't even seem to care? In the busy world outside The winds of time fiercely blow. Do you see their swift movements, Or do they not even show - Inside your little cage Where you're safe and secure? "Please, oh please, break free" I plead with you, "No longer endure". gkm/5-28-20 |
I've added a new item to my portfolio:
HE – THE MIGHTY ONE People move about me, Expressions grim or fair, Life shining through their eyes Showing their every care. Tied to duty or pleasure, They silently move on. Are they looking positively ahead, To the bright and new coming dawn? He –The Mighty One, Gives meaning to my days – Do your best to help them, To help them to understand my ways. |
I have edited and rewritten part of Chapter 1 of my book Laresn / Alien Girl.

Just wondering what everyone thinks. "Should poetry be read to try to figure out what the writer was writing about or trying to say, or should it be read to see what it means to you and how it might be applied to your life?" Take "Caged" for example. Caged Standing in your cage, You're safe and secure. Others look at you and notice How you are looking very mature. They don't see your strange surroundings. They're used to seeing you there. Do you feel it holding you in, Or do you not even care? In the world outside you The winds fiercely blow. Do you see the swift movements, Or do they not even show - There where you are secure and safe Inside your little cage? Please, oh please "break free" I desperately want to rage. gkm Do you need to know or figure out what the writer was meaning or writing about, or do you read to see what it would mean to you? Just wondering. |
I've just added the first chapter of my book, Laresn - Alien Girl, to my portfolio. I would love to get some reviews on it. This is Book 2. |

Also, I see you only have 5 fans and at least one isn't even around these days. Must like fans for authors in the real world, we need fans on here to get noticed. Richard ~ Less Mummy Like! and I both frequently get on the Community Newsfeed where we can see things like you posted. However, very, very few people get on the Community Newsfeed. Thus, if someone isn't on the Community Newsfeed and they haven't clicked your Plus at least once (preferably twice to become a fan), they'll never see your Newsfeed notes. I really encourage you to spend time on the Community Newsfeed regularly. Partly, it's a good place to meet new friends and hopefully meet people who will want to click your Plus Sign...and hopefully some whose Plus you will also want to click. Another benefit to being on the Community Newsfeed frequently is that you would see notes from the people who occasionally ask people to post something they want reviewed. If your item is longer, I know Starling does reviews for 1k per word. It's really hard to get people to review longer items, so this is a deal if you've writing a longer story, novella, or novel. To get to the Community Newsfeed, go to your Personal Newsfeed by clicking Newsfeed. Then, along the top you will see "View the Community Newsfeed." Click that and you'll see what everyone is posting (within your rating limit), not just the people whose Plus Sign you have clicked. Scroll, Like, comment, and start making friends. The more folks see you commenting on their items, the more likely they are to click your Plus. If you decide to click a Plus, I really encourage you to double click until you see the megaphone. Some folks like Richard ~ Less Mummy Like! and I (maybe Starling, but I can't recall) will reward new fans and/or occasionally reward all our fans. If you only click our Plus once, you set us as a favorite and that's private. We don't get notified, so we can't reward you. I like to say, "Megaphones get mega bucks while fingers with string get nothing." That way you can remember that you need to click until you see the megaphone so we get notified and can reward you when we reward our fans. Good luck with your writing and I do hope you are able to find some reviewers. |
Hello there Lori J ! I just got through reviewing your poem as a part of "Angel Review Forum" and since you entered in my contest. I wanted to welcome you to WDC and thank you again for entering! If you need help with anything, just email me. |
Also, I wanted to let you know that when you're responding to someone's response (like you did with SB Musing in this post), you can tag them so that they'll get a notice that you've mentioned them in a post. To do this, you need to know the person's username, which you can find out by hovering your cursor over their "handle" (if you hover over SB Musing, you'll see that their username is sarama). I've tagged them above (notice the bold type and the black suitcase) by typing in {suser:sarama}.
I'm actually very lazy, so I usually go the old-fashioned route and type in the @ symbol followed by the username. Usually after typing in the first few letters of the name, a pop-up menu appears, and from there you can select/click the correct person from that menu.
If you need more info or details on tagging, handles, and more, please check out:

or go to the left menu bar on the screen and click on Writing Resources. On the bottom half of that pop-up menu you'll find a link to a Help Forum, FAQ, Technical Support, and others.
And of course, there are lots of helpful folks around the site who will chime in and offer support as you gain visibility on the Community Newsfeed. (I noticed Schnujo's Doing NaNoWriMo? has already posted some info for you, so I hope you're getting the idea that most of the people around here are friendly and welcoming!
I hope this is helpful to you!
Cheers!
