I am rather fond of this poem. Rhyme scheme is spot on, as is your meter. I find this poem uplifting in that you have found strength in seemingly uncertain times (after, during, and before). The mist suggests a sense of foreboding, perhaps of ongoing trials, but the dispersion you speak of seems to be your moment of introspection. In those doldrums in the tempest of life, you find your strength in passing through the mist. This strength, of course, seems to enable you to see beyond the next mist and the victory of the self that awaits you there.
Best of luck on life's journey, then, and keep writing.
As a Political Science major, I've had oodles of time and ambition to watch the American downfall. Although, you've reached a level that has eluded me for sometime: the restoration of hope. Even in flirting with state politics, I've found the scene surprisingly uglier than expected. Life seems a little brighter with your last two stanzas.
Again, thank you for an enjoyable and timely piece!
Namaste.
