I love this story, sounds very true. I like how it turned around from the beginning to the end. In the beginning we think for sure the former classmate will be found, then at the end she is found, but not interested in renewing the friendship, then at the very end the person is given something wonderful, like the Universe is making up for her not being able to renew her friendship with the woman.
Almost didn't read this since it started off with the football stuff, but decided to since you said it involved a girl and her family. Wished you would have brokend up the big blocks of writing -- might have been different if I was reading it in a book and not on the computer with the small print. Also, wasn't happen to find out the story was continued, since there was nothing to indicate this when I started -- don't do the part 2-type of stories, since I want to read the whole story at one time, not wait for the next part.
I love this story -- it is so very much what it feels like to be in a hospital -- my hospital wasn't a mental institution by a regular hospital, taking all of the pills they give you for pain and infection. But I can see the girl who decided to end it all in my head as I read your story. Too bad we can't find a way to make those voices in their heads come out on paper or art, etc. You make understand why some people chose suicide.
Just realized as I was doing this survey that I don't really know in how to explain what a normal person is in writing, I just know that someone is normal or they aren't. I guess I've picked it up from the media, but I still have my own ideas of who and what is a normal person.
Great story and reminds me of the mini-skirts when I was a kid living in a small town. Fashion styles have sure changed, but not the small town morals and ways of being. As one preacher said about my hometown, they live like they are still in the 1950's. Glad you wrote the story as a reminder to all females about how much has changed and yet, still stayed the same.
I love this story and the ending was such a surprise. But makes me wonder how the woman could have remembered the things which were included in the story about each piece. Think maybe you should re-write it and make it plainer that she didn't have those memories, but some how the memories became attached to the fabric and she was able to see and hear them in her mind. Or was the doctor wrong? Did she have children and the diary told their story? Or did the diary tell the story of the fabric pieces and she imagined it as she did the sewing? -- An interesting story, which is making me wonder about her and the fabric pieces.
