First, let's get the bad part out of the way. I first read this on Nov. 6, 2024, the day after Kamala Harris did not become the first female American president and finish out Biden's term.
Second, the good part. I really liked this story. The characters were developed enough and the explanation of the grandfather clock left me feeling nostalgic.
Also, I had no problem understanding Solstice Day as it was explained enough for even an older guy like myself.
This is my first review in a long time and I am glad I picked this story. It flows well and never gets too grandiose for the average reader. I do like some of the author's word choices, such as "asperity," as it shows a higher knowledge or command of the English language than the cliches we have all come to expect.
The technology is described so accurately, I had no trouble imagining it or believing it could really exist.
The only real fault I found is with Julian Glock. He seems like a normal guy, taken by the technology he is considering. But, I also had an issue with him waiting until he was halfway to town to think about stopping a murder. I did not know enough about his motivations but I wondered if he would be the kind of person to see a potential murder and then not do anything about it.
Then again, that is possibly the conundrum for the story. Do we get involved?
Overall, an above-average story.
