This fawn is "parked" outside my window in our bird garden as I write this. Mama deer will park newborns and young fawn in places they find safe so she can feed herself without worrying about her babe's safety. Mama isn't going to wander far, and she'll return to the fawn throughout the day to observe and nurse her babe. If you come across a fawn like this, please don't touch it. If it's in distress or you're sure the mama's been killed, call a deer rehabilitation specialist - see full text. |
