Konette's adventures chapter 1 |
The Adventures of Konette Thud! The enemy scout toppled the ground as Konette drew her sword across his chest. The sound of an alarm echoed over the cold air. She glanced around quickly; enemies began closing in from the trees on all sides of the valley that surrounded her. Some were mounted on horseback; others were on foot with their vicious dogs by their sides. She spotted her salvation in seeing the abandoned horse left by her latest victory. In one smooth motion she leaped onto the horse and kicked him into a full gallop. With surprising ease she unsheathed both swords mounted on her back. She now grew closer to her enemies; she set her eyes on two foot soldiers struggling behind their angry dogs who desperately wanted to attack. Upon them now, she aimed her swords, and with one clean motion left both bodies headless. Their dogs were free and immediately began a pursuit. All men mounted on horses and the rest of the dogs, who had managed to escape their holders, hastily followed them. Konette repeatedly urged her mount faster as she entered into the forest. Glancing over her shoulder she noticed the dogs were gaining. “Come on boy come on” she urged her horse adding a sound kick to his flanks. She set her eyes on the trail ahead, but they immediately blurred. The cold wind whipped through her auburn hair and made it impossible to see clearly. Remembering the object of her mission she felt for her pack in which the prize was contained. Her heart jumped into her throat as she remembered her pack falling to the ground as she fought the scout. Not wanting to face the truth, but knowing she could not leave it behind she realized what she had to do. “I must go back”. |
