Dedicated to all those generations who made their living from the sea

This song is dedicated to not only my ancestors who came from a small fishing town in southern Ireland in the 1700's, but to all those whose whole life was born, rose and died by the waters of life.

                      " Waters "

  Progression in G major  4/4

      G          D                A
Take me down to the waters.
Down to the waters of life.
By the sea I made my living.
Now lay me to rest here to die.

My family came here years ago.
There whole life was the sea.
  Pulling traps.nets and long lines.
And destined a life for me.

The smell of the harbor before me.
The gulls at the point diving bait.
  Cod, Striped Bass, and herring.
Open waters is where I feel safe.

My eyesight dim after all these years.
Of scanning the ocean so blue.
My hands have worked till broken.
My face is a chart and school.

Take me down to the waters.
Down to the waters of life.
When I was a young man.
At sunrise I married my wife.

I worked hard and put in long hours.
Made a living for all these years.
But time has taken a toll on me.
And memories bring me back here.

So take me down to the waters.
That's where I want to be.
Spread my ashes on my homeland.
Let the gulls wave goodbye to me.

Take me down now to the waters.
  The waters are my life.
Hand my ashes to the waters.
And peace be with all tonight.
