This is a tribute to the first lady of country music.
This is a tribute piece to the first lady of country music who opened the door for all women who came after her.

A Tribute To Patsy Montana
by Barbara Lynn Terry

Born in Hope, Arkansas in 19 ot 8
her parents saw her smiling face
a bundle of joy that would make the boys
all want her for their own.
But the seeds of fame in her were sown
as she bounced onto the country music scene.
She was talented, her wits very keen.

She sang from her pure heart,
"I Wanna Be A Cowboy's Sweetheart"
but that was only the start
of a grand career for this first woman
of country music who showed every man
that she was as good as they.
She was the first lady of country music to get
a million dollar best seller in what what would net
her fame and fortune and respect as well.

She sang and yodeled her way into the hearts
of every American but it was only the start.
She appeared on the radio singing her songs
and no one could find she'd done wrong
singing her songs of independence strong.

She opened the door for women in country music
and played with many musicians, as well as performing
her own songs. She played the cello, the violin and guitar
and her voice was heard by all close and from afar.
She made it to the Grand Old Opry, the Louisiana Hayride,
she formed her own group called the Montana Cowgirls,
in a depression era world.

She acted with Gene Autry the singing cowboy
and showed that she was nobody's toy.
She was strong, happy, carefree
and to sing she just wanted to be
the woman she was without more.

She passed away May 3, 1996 after a lifetime
of achievement and being inducted into the
Country Music Hall Of Fame in 1996
her memory will live on in the hearts of America
and the grateful thanks from women in country music
for opening the door.

Ruby Blevins, October 30, 1908 to May 3, 1996
You will always be in our hearts Patsy.
