*Note: This is the first poem that I ever wrote (age 12 - 1994). I came up with the first stanza off the top of my head when I was helping my younger brother with a school assignment. He had to write a poem. I decided that the stanza was pretty good and wrote the rest of it. The only change that's been made since then is a tense switch. Originally the first verse was in the past tense (i.e. "There I sat where the willows wept and the swans sang songs to sweeten the day."), while the rest of it was the same as it is now. I refused to change it as a child because I loved my original first stanza, but finally edited it around age 16. I still believe the original stanza was better.
Here I sit where
The willows weep
And the swans sing songs
To sweeten the day.
All the bees are dancing
Around near their hives,
But they do not dance
In a joyful way.
The frogs always croak
mournfully here.
Why, is something I
could never see.
But the swans still
Sing their songs
As cheerful as
Can be.
