“Perfect” Man
He would be as strong as the ginkgo,
But as beautiful as the willow.
He would be as trustful as the sun,
And as knowing as the clock.
He’d tease me like the sea waves,
Drifting in toward me and then pulling away.
But as loyal as my eyes,
Seeing what needs to be seen.
He would be as warm as the hands he touches me with,
But his attitude as cool as the shoulder I’ll turn to him.
He would be as mysterious as the moon’s dark side,
But as open as the Great Plains.
He would be as smooth as jazz,
But as rugged as his unshaven beard.
He would be as electrifying as the metal bands I listen to,
But as calming as the sea.
His ego as deep as his blood,
But his heart as clear as my tears.
Oh!
He would be the perfect man!
But if there was such a thing as one,
Why must there be so much suffering?
