Dark Poetry Collection

The first poem I wrote was called "Broken Wings", I wrote it after a friend of mine that I liked fell for another one of my friends, it is a slightly depressing and angsty piece.

Broken Wings

This little bird, locked in a cage
A heart filled with bitter rage
A spark of change behind its eyes
Cold clarity in a world of lies

Breaking the wings sets a change
A single truth through every age
The bird is gone, the beast is here
No more love, no more fear

The cage is gone, the beast is free
A new world, with new sights to see
Thinking so much differently
Now with a predator’s gleam
Brings an end to the bird’s dark dream

This next poem is called "Elegy", it was written for a contest that I never actually entered into.  I honestly can't summarize it as so many different people read it and said different ideas that came to mind.  I would really love to hear your thoughts on it.

Elegy

I taste my death upon your lips with our last kiss
All the things that I lament
A sweet memory that I will dearly miss
The force that makes us part, I will always resent

A song sung as my old shell sinks into the grave
A cold, yet loving elegy
A bittersweet melody meant only for me
An ephemeral love, designed my soul to save

I truly regret my fate,
A dark and unruly jest
That my soul never be laid to rest
Any chance to be redeemed comes too late

As today fades into tomorrow,
An endless cycle, forever to repeat
A twisted embrace of sorrow
I begin to feel my soul’s defeat

I linger, the passage of another year’s twilight
I’ve forgotten all the things I ever wanted to say
And I pray to all who listen,
Bring an end to this, the awful, howling, night…

This next poem is untitled, I never really thought of a name for it until now, so from this moment, I dub it, "Worship".  It is basically a declaration of love and a promise of what lies in store for the person being spoken to.

Worship

Love, a bittersweet song in my heart
It never stops once these feelings start
Oh the pain whenever we part
You make misery an art

Can you hear the words I say?
For your love I pray
Each and every day
And with my heart you play

Call to me and name your king
Bound to your soul my heart can freely sing
Be my queen
And we’ll rule a new world unseen

With that little word and some hope
I can save myself with this little rope

The last poem is my favorite, it is titled, "Metamorphosis".  I feel that you should read it and interpret it in your own way.

Metamorphosis

Can betrayal take a form as sweet as thee?
Can I endure this bitter agony
The painful beating of my heart
Incited by these feelings that you start

The cause of all my rage
All my love and hate locked in a cage
Cannot let my jealousy win
I hope and pray I never give in

Will I be undone
Cause I don’t seem to be your one
You ran to another
I thought I was it and there’d be no other

And now there’s a light
A chance for me to make it right
He’ll not always be forever at your side
And then I’ll truly let my heart be my guide

I'll wait and fight through this pain
My heart and soul resist the solitude of this rain
I listen to him say your name
And endure and survive my secret shame

I’ll break my weakness and take my crown
I swear I won’t let you down
I’ll spread my wings and at last be free
And then you’ll see
The secret, hidden side of me
