A poem about growing up and what we leave behind.
"Daydream"

You know my name,
we've met before,
we used to be quite close.
We were musketeers
and Robin Hood,
we were kings, gods and pharaohs.

There was a time
when we could fly,
like eagles when they soar.
Then we'd land
far away,
upon a distant shore.

We would wrestle sharks,
then walk the plank
and brave the mighty cold,
swim to the depths
of Davy Jones
and steal away his gold.

Yes that was you
so long ago,
before time could take its toll.
Yes that was you
so long ago,
before reason stole your soul.

I catch glimpses
now and then,
of the you I used to know,
when you drink red wine,
or take a trip
or read Edgar Allan Poe.

Things have changed
you moved on
and left me far behind,
but always know
I linger still
in the corners of your mind.

There are many places
you can find me,
if you care to look,
your daughter's eyes,
the poet's pen
or the pages of a book.
