Understanding your immortality.+ |
"I have a lifetime guarantee on my soul." a young man said. He was speaking of The Rapture at a Christian lecture in the basement of Christ Church in Cambridge, Massachusetts. I raised my hand and asked what the soul is. Gary the young man speaking of the soul went on to quote Jesus' analogy to the wind which we do not see, but we know is there. I asked do all living things have a soul? Gary nodded and said yes. "So, do our living blood cells have souls? And does that mean we have millions of souls in our blood?" I said. Gary gave a toothy smile, "One body; one soul." How Gary knew this; he did not explain. But, he quoted Genesis, "God made Adam from the mud." The next half of the lecture was about the advantage Christians have in The End Times. Christians know when they die what to expect. They will not be deceived by demons and will know the laws of the spiritual world. They will not graze in the meadows of sacred sexual fantasies. Heaven is a place to find pleasure in contemplation of God's glory. I could not resist asking, "How do you know this?" Gary fiercely defended the Gospels and the Apostle John's Apocalypse. Okay. If this is true, where is it written sexy demons will try to tempt us after we are dead? Gary ignored this as atheism and went on to explain how his Christian values hold his family together. I was critical and felt that other beliefs provide stable family values. I mentioned that the word Shoal in Hebrew means grave not Hell. Gary made Gospel quotes to support his argument. I confessed I did not believe in Hell, but did believe in demons. "The demon comes from Heaven as God's emissary. That is recorded in Job." I said. Gary thought this was crazy and explained that the Devil is at war with Heaven and God. All of which is impossible to not see in the wickedness of Godless people, according to Gary. Well, I tried to explain that an all powerful God cannot be overthrown or disobeyed. It was impossible to persuade Gary. Imagine an infinite God, who knows how everything will turn out, creating the Devil and allowing this demon to make war with Heaven. It is ridiculous. Unless, God is crazy. That is terrifying.
