One of the very first poems I wrote, about twelve years old.
If life were a game,
and in it we play,
nobody would win,
we'd all play our way.
         There would be no rules,
those are for us to decide,
everyone knows,
nobody abides.
         We would never pass GO,
or get three lives,
or roll 5 of a kind,
for which everyone strives.
         Instead we would fail,
in jail we would be,
with no card that read,
"get out of here free"
We would race for first place,
not glancing back,
to see where we've gone,
whose left in out tracks.
We would let instincts take over,
and in pride we would soak,
for our place in line,
our chance to boast.
         And it seems to me,
that life is a game,
all in it to win it,
its really a shame.
         Playing for fun,
is a motto to follow,
last isn't so bad,
not that hard to swallow.
         And in the end,
who really won,
the guy in first place,
or the one that had fun.
         Because trophies may last,
for seconds or less,
but lifetimes after,
memories are best.
         So when playing life,
dont forget that rule,
just have your fun,
and dont be a fool.
