Two boys escaping an unknown terror on the battlefield.
The dust engulfed my running figure with every step. Heavily panting, my throat felt as if it was stuffed with cotton. It was becoming a struggle to breath, and I was quickly being drained of energy. I knew I had to rest somewhere.

I motioned to my partner to slow down, scanning the battlefield. I let out a strangled sigh when I found a ditch that was hidden by shrubs and surrounding trees. I quickly dove into the trench.

“I don’t know how much longer I can take this,” Alex gasped as he collapsed. We had been running for what seemed like days, trying to escape the consequences that we would face if we got caught.

I crawled over to Alex, keeping my frame as low as possible to avoid being seen by anyone passing by. I patted his back, pathetically trying to comfort his nerves.

“I know it’s hard,” I started. “But it’ll be worth it. For now, we have to stay put. No one will find us in here.”

Alex nodded as he began to calm down. We laid our backs against the dirt fortress, regaining our breath. We sat in silence for some time.

Suddenly, a loud commotion was heard from above. Fear overcame both of us as voices crept closer to us. The suspense was strangling me. I prayed that they would walk right past our hideout.

The intruders were right above us. They had their weapons ready, and had every intention on using them. A voice screeched, “I’VE FOUND THEM! THEY’RE IN THIS DITCH!”

We tried to scramble out, but we had been captured. Our knees were shaking as we were brought before the leader. The burly man boomed, “There you two are! No more horsing around! Flag football is apart of your P.E. grade!”
