For The Love Of Cameron

During the show tonight, Cam’s heart was on fire,
For in the crowd, was his heart’s desire.
He couldn’t understand why he felt this way,
They were young and sick, surviving day to day.

He knew that for him, she was the one,
But how could he tell her? She might run!
At the age of twelve, life’s not very easy,
The thought of love actually made him queasy.

During the show, his act seemed mechanical,
Later Julie asked him why things seemed unnatural.
He tried to blow it off, said nothing was wrong,
But Julie saw his lie, could hear his heart’s song.

As a girl of thirteen, matters seemed obvious,
Liked Cam a lot, knew she had to be cautious.
After all, boys don’t mature as fast as girls,
For them romance put their mind in a whirl.

She sought out Joshua, he had Cam’s trust,
Asked for his help, pleaded, “You must! You must!”
Joshua smiled, his eyes lit bright once again,
“I knew you’d come to me, I’ll handle it my friend.”

“How could you know, I’ve told no one at all.”
Joshua replied, “Knowing things, has been my call.
I’ll tell you a secret, keep it just between us.
I’m not like you or Cam, but please make no fuss.”

“What do you mean Josh? I’ve known you for years!”
“Julie, what I’m saying is for only your ears.
I was sent here to heal Cam, to set things right.
Once all is well with him, I'll leave one night.”

Julie tried to protest, but saw the truth in his eyes,
And knew she would honor him, even if she had to lie.
At the age of nineteen, Joshua passed on peacefully,
Now caring for Cameron fell to his friend, Julie.

Cameron’s life had been planned, almost preordained.
Julie would guide him as he entertained.
She gave him advice, never once pestered,
As slowly he grew, and became The Jester.
