Sand crunches beneath my feet as
I walk along the water's edge.
I hear the rushing roar of
Waves rippling along the shore,
The seagulls calling as they
Dive and swoop to catch tiny crabs
That scuttle amid the debris of
Flotsam and jetsam scattered about,
As if thrown by a careless hand.
It comes in with the tide and is left behind
With the broken pieces of shells,
Ground and crushed by the relentlessly pounding waves.
I stop and turn to look out to sea,
Hair streaming on salt-laden wind as
I close my eyes.
Tasting the salty air,
I take a deep breath,
I feel at peace.
