Story about a girl in the zombie apocalypse. A story that I wrote for a college class. |
My name is Annah and I am a zombie hunter. In 2030, ten years ago zombies appeared. Nobody knows how it happened or why, but they are not your typical zombie, they are smart and powerful. Now, there are only a handful of humans left. Anybody in their right mind will learn how to fight and kill a zombie. The only way to kill them is to cut off their head. I have killed lots of zombies over the years, almost getting turned a couple of times, I am pretty notorious. But the zombies are getting out of control, and now I am on my way to join a band of well-known hunters. Our mission is to take humanity back. I have traveled all over the world, now I am headed to the Sahara Desert to meet the hunters. The only way of travel is by foot, car, or boat. I own a motorboat and I am only a few hours away from shore. A couple of breaks to rest, and later I reach the shore of Morocco. I am supposed to travel East for a while, and I should come across a Hummer that I can take the rest of the way to the hunters located somewhere in Egypt. A few hours of walking in the scorching sun, and I could see the faint outline of the Hummer and my thoughts got a little brighter. Before I could reach it though, there was a sting in my calf, I look down and see a dagger sticking out. I look behind me and see a disheveled figure with gray skin and tattered clothes. “Damn,” I muttered. I had hoped I could get to the hunters before being swarmed by zombies. I yank the dagger out and fling it at the zombie, knowing that it would not affect it. It charged me and I ran towards it, as I got closer I saw more zombies in the surrounding area. Why did these things have to travel in packs? When I get close enough, I give my best Roundhouse kick to the zombie and it staggers sideways. Before it could regain its balance I take my sword out of its sheath and swing it towards the zombie. It dodged so I stabbed it in the chest and took my rope of razor sharp wire and snake it around the zombie’s neck and pull. The wire sliced through its neck, and its head fell to the ground with a satisfying thud. I turn around to find twenty, forty zombies facing me and I get a little anxious. I go to work, stabbing, punching, kicking, slicing heads off, but it seems as if the more I kill, the more they show up. As I am about to slice the head off of one zombie, I feel the sting of something hot and burning go through my body and realize I have been shot. I turn around to face the zombie who shot me and I get shot in the arm, thigh, and stomach. It is a good thing these things cannot aim. It is too much though, and I collapse to the ground. Before I completely pass out I see dust fly up and vehicles approach. I am jolted awake with pain all over my body. I notice I am on a couch with a nerdy looking guy sitting next to me. “Where the hell am I?” I ask. “You’re at Ghost headquarters. Welcome, Annah,” the guy answered holding out his hand. “I’m Bash.” “What happened?” I questioned, shaking his hand. “You were attacked by a bunch of zombies. We had eyes on you and when we saw what was happening, we came in to help. Don’t feel bad, no single person, no matter how good they are, could have fought that many zombies off without help. You’ve been out for three days. Come with me and I’ll introduce you to the other leaders.” Bash stood up and gave me his hand to help me stand up. I could not remember anything after I had gotten shot. I followed Bash into another room. There were a lot of people milling around, none of them appeared to be the ones we were looking for. Bash led me to a table with a buff guy and an exotic looking girl. “Finally, you’re awake,” the girl said sounding impatient. “Don’t mind her,” the guy jumped in, “I’m A.J., the leader, and she’s Jordan. Jordan is the technician and Bash is the brains. They are co-leaders.” Jordan snorted and A.J. shoved her. “It’s a pleasure to finally meet you, Annah,” he said shaking my hand. “Are you ready to jump into the action or would you like to rest some more?” “Let’s do this thing!” I exclaimed, ready to fight the zombies, ready to take back our lives, ready to take humanity back. |
