We talk about faith and believing in Jesus, but do we really? |
Do I really have faith? Better yet, what is faith? Yesterday, I read almost sixty (60) passages in the Bible about faith, AND I came up lacking. The faith of a mustard seed -- move mountains (physical, mental, spiritual, and no it was not a hypothetical. Who can overcome the world -- true believers Do not despise the youth; but be an example for them in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. With your HEART you believe, and with your mouth profess your faith. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. I could go on listing more verses about faith because the Bible is full of them, but it is not about the words are the examples. It is about faith and how we get faith and know that we have it. After reading on and on and on, I was convinced that my faith was and is WEAK. I believe in God. I believe in His Son Jesus. I believe in the Holy Spirit -- but do I really believe? Am I willing to walk out on "my" faith and speak and share my belief in God to a world that does not believe, does not want to hear, and seems unwilling to take a chance on eternal life? Am I willing to die for what I believe in? The world seems to have converted back to days of old -- you kill my cat, I will kill your dog. An eye for an eye. Didn't God send His Son into the world to change all of this so many hundreds of years ago? Then why are we right back where we started before Jesus died on the cross? Examining myself, I must admit and confess, I do not have sufficient faith to move a mountain, give sight to the blind, heal the sick, cast out demons or even stay focused on the words of God. That is why I must rise daily and commit and recommit my life to God, to goodness, to be faithful. It is my hope that one day my faith will be that of a mustard seed so that I can move mountains. Let us, therefore, come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. My prayer this morning. Peace and blessings always. |
