I would consider wearing a running shoe to the prom

Recommend a ballroom shoe
That feels like a Nike Vaporfly
And fits mismated feet, double E.

I want to feel I run on air
And that the shoe is subtle there
But should my date embarrass me,
Let me be light and fleet to flee.

When the techno music soars
I’ll shimmy a marathon center floor
Impulse, pulse of my date’s reaction
As my steps are gaining traction.

I’ll rock a glitter-top and pants
Toss the memory of the middle school dance
When my left heel kept rising out of my flat
Sidelined in a dress - enough of that.

I’ll save for a Nike Vaporfly
And when I can afford it,
That’s what I’ll buy.
